A spring cleanse does not have to involve expensive kits or rigid instructions, leaving wallets empty and stomachs hungry. Our bodies are so clever that they will naturally detox when given the right environment. They know exactly how to cleanse and are already doing it all the time. But they need our support and a solid foundation for it to do its thing. So let’s keep it simple and work with the body.
Here are 3 ways to support your body’s natural cleansing process.
Eat real food. This is the best, most loving thing you can do for your body. Real foods are ones that are as close to their natural state as possible - fruit, veggies, grains, nuts. Your body will respond with gifts of gratitude such as clearer skin, more energy and a speedier metabolism.
Drink lots of water. When you wake in the morning, have a glass of room temperature water with freshly squeezed lemon. Your liver (cleansing organ) and immune system (keeps you healthy) will love you for it as it helps them to flush toxins out of your body.
Our bodies have a hard time cleansing if it is in a state of stress. Go outside, lie in the grass, go barefoot on the beach, play Frisbee with your dog, get a massage, whatever it is – the less stressed you are, the more your body is willing to let go of extra weight and harmful toxins.
These three ways of cleansing are simple but require commitment and motivation on our part. We might look at the list above and think – I’d rather pop a few cleansing pills from a kit and carry on my day as usual. Way easier. But without addressing the body’s basic need for water, whole foods and rest – the results will be short lived.
