Goat Milk Yogurt

It wont be hard to forget that your yogurt came from a goat so send a mental thank you to the little gal as well as the farmer who started the whole process for us. How do you say thank you in Goat?xoxSusThere is something I respect about goat milk. It just carries that bold attitude, "I'm goat milk. I tase the way I taste and I'm not gonna change for anyone"

I respect that.

If you can get past that pasturey taste or even enjoy the flavour of milk from ze goat, you may want to try goat yogurt.

This recipe does not have to be made with goat milk, you can also use dairy or there are even nut milk variations. But hey, lets just go crazy today and focus on goat yogurt. Its Monday, and I'm sure we could all use a little crazy in our day.

Why Make it?

There are so many reasons why its a good idea to make your own yogurt. Ill give you 5.

  • You know what's in it.

  • It was not processed/packaged in a factory.

  • Real live probiotics!

  • Stimulate immune system

  • Helps with elimination.

What You Need:

  • I L Goat Milk

  • Cooking thermometer

  • A pot

  • Starter - I used GI Pro Start. But you could also use another variation of a starter.

  • An oven with a working light.

The Goat Milk Yogurt Making Process

1. Pour milk in a pot, turn on low heat and stir every few minutes until temp reads 180F. This kills any lingering bacteria which may be present and interfere with the process.

2. Let milk cool until it is at room temp (about 80F).

3. Now take about a cup of milk from the pot and mix in 1/16th of GI Pro Start. That really is not a lot. It also justifies spending 20 bucks or so on the reliable GI Prostart. Look how teeny tiny the amount is for one batch of yogurt.

4. Stir it around in the cup and mix it back into the pot.

5. Put a towel around the pot and put it in the oven. Turn on the oven light and let it be for 24 hours. The yogurt becomes an introvert and likes to be left alone for the process, no need to check on it, stir it, talk to it, text it to see how its doing, etc. The light is enough warmth for the bacteria to live, grow and multiply.

6. After 24 hours, take out the yogurt. Voila! There may be a little layer of watery stuff on top. Just stir it around.

7. Now pour it in your fav mason jar/s and store in fridge for up to two weeks.
