DIY Coconut Milk + Flour (Video)

Hi-ya.

When you think life can't get any better, you learn that you can make your own coconut milk and coconut flour. (AND coconut butter but that's for another day.)

So here are the steps and the vid explains anything else you might need to know.

Coconut Milk

  • 2 cups shredded, unsweetened coconut

  • 2.5 cups boiled water

Stir together and let sit until cooled.

Mix and squeeze the mixture with your hands or blend it in a blender.

Use a cheese cloth or a fine strainer to squeeze out the milk from the coconut.

There you have it - coconut milk. You can use this in any recipe that calls for coconut milk. The cream will rise to the top and harden in the fridge which you can use to make coconut whipped cream and other such delicious things. It should last in your fridge for 4-5 days. Or more. Depends on how much you care about that kinda thing :)

You can do a second round with the same coconut and add another 2.5 cups of hot water. It will make a weaker coconut milk but you can use it in smoothies or just drink it on its own.

Coconut Flour

Spread the leftover shredded coconut onto a baking pan. Turn your oven onto the lowest possible heat and let it bake/dehydrate for 8-12 hours. Then blend it in your blender and you have coconut flour.
